The Walmart Center for Tech Excellence (WCTE) at IIT Madras is a collaborative initiative established by Walmart Global Tech and IIT Madras to accelerate the digital transformation of India's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Launched in February 2024, the Centre focuses on enabling manufacturing and retail MSMEs to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and digital technologies that improve operational efficiency, productivity, and long-term competitiveness.
The Centre aims to democratize access to advanced technologies by developing an open-source, domain-agnostic AI platform that delivers engineering and retail analytics solutions for businesses of varying sizes. Alongside technology development, it is creating a repository of real-world industry use cases and case studies that demonstrate practical AI applications across manufacturing and retail. These resources will serve as the foundation for training and capacity-building programs, helping MSMEs understand and implement AI-driven solutions in their day-to-day operations.
