The CAMS IITM Fintech Innovation Lab (CIFIL) is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of Computer Age Management Services (CAMS) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). The lab advances financial technology through research, innovation, education, and industry collaboration.

Research & Knowledge Leadership

CIFIL conducted impactful research on fintech’s role in advancing Sustainable Development Goals, financial inclusion, economic growth, and digital infrastructure. Additional focus areas included fintech mergers and acquisitions, mobile banking performance, and identifying key research gaps such as fintech index development and stronger bank–fintech collaboration.

Faculty members published research in reputed international journals, strengthening global academic contributions in fintech and sustainable finance.

Applied Innovation Projects

Key projects undertaken include:

  1. Blockchain-based KYC framework to enhance transparency, security, and efficiency in customer verification.
  2. Fraud prevention and unclaimed funds framework with structured operating procedures to help return funds to rightful investors.
  3. Risk assessment models for insurance and individual investors to support informed financial decision-making.

These frameworks have been shared with CAMS for further review and action.

Startup & Digital Innovation

Through its Startup Initiative, CIFIL nurtures fintech entrepreneurship:

The lab strengthened industry–academia collaboration through MoUs, regulatory engagement, brainstorming sessions, and a fintech–cybersecurity hackathon conducted with Indian Bank, focusing on fraud prevention and secure digital frameworks.

Financial Literacy & Capacity Building

CIFIL is developing certification programs in wealth management, fintech, AI, cybersecurity, blockchain, and regulatory frameworks. These initiatives aim to bridge skill gaps and build a future-ready fintech workforce.
