Coordinated drone fleet to go after the problem of New Delhi's air pollution
Principal Investigator
Prof. Sachin S Gunthe
Objective
- This project focuses on understanding the dispersion of biomass-burning emissions in the atmosphere and their impact on urban air quality in New Delhi.
Description
- Specialized drones will collect data on how these emissions interact with the clean-free troposphere, improving our understanding of particulate matter (PM) pollution sources. The project will use these data to enhance models of fire emission transport, contributing to a better understanding of New Delhi's air quality issues and informing regional communities and policymakers.
Impact
- This research will benefit Delhi's air quality, which is heavily affected by particular matter (PM) pollution, and enhance regional climate models by including biomass burning emissions data, improving air quality forecasts and policy development. Success in this project may lead to further advancements in sensor technology and atmospheric research.
